Austin Golson signs with Ole Miss over Florida State

The Rebels have added yet another highly regarded player to their 2013 recruiting class, this time signing four-star Alabama offensive lineman Austin Golson.

The Ole Miss Rebels have pulled in another highly regarded recruit, this time signing offensive tackle Austin Golson. The consensus four-star recruit from Prattville (Ala.) High School went with the Rebels after a long commitment to Florida State, which he broke off on Jan. 28.

At 6’6”, 285 lbs, Golson is already a big kid, and he has the frame to add more weight and strength. However, despite his size, he has very good feet and is quick off the ball. He’ll need to add some more strength, but that shouldn’t be too much of an issue considering his physical potential.

Golson is another feather in the cap of Hugh Freeze, who is compiling an amazing recruiting class during his first full year on the job in Oxford. The Rebels have climbed into the top 10 in some recruiting service rankings for the 2013 recruiting cycle, and the program has a lot of positive momentum following a surprising 7-6 season in 2012.

Ratings: Golson is a consensus four-star recruit, as rated by 247, Rivals, Scout, and ESPN.

Vitals: Golson is enormous, standing 6’6”, 285 lbs.

Other offers: Golson also had offers from Florida State, Alabama, North Carolina, Clemson, Mississippi State, Auburn, Kentucky, Southern Miss, Stanford, USC, Tennessee, and Wake Forest.

Twitter: It doesn’t look like he tweets very much, but you can find Golson on Twitter @Austin_golson.

Recruitment timeline: Golson committed to Florida State all the way back in April of 2011, and stuck with the Seminoles all the way until Jan. 28, 2013. He de-committed after taking official visits to Ole Miss and Alabama earlier in the month, and took an unofficial visit to Oxford again on Feb. 1.
