Kenny Hill signs with Texas A&M over Baylor, Kansas State

The Southlake (Texas) Carroll prospect looked around, but ended up sticking with his longtime commitment.

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas A&M Aggies don’t need immediate help at quarterback with Johnny Football now entrenched after his meteoric rise, but they do have some future depth with the addition of 2013 Southlake (Texas) Carroll’s Kenny Hill, who signed his letter of intent on Wednesday.

A consensus four-star prospect who is considered a top-10 dual-threat quarterback prospect nationally, the 6’2, 210-pound Hill is also a top-40 player in the state of Texas. He re-affirmed his commitment to Texas A&M over the weekend after taking January visits to Baylor and Kansas State. Before his March 2012 pledge to the Aggies, Hill had also held offers from Arizona, Ole Miss, and Texas Tech.

Coming from the powerhouse Southlake Carroll program, Hill has received strong coaching throughout his high school career and is the son of Ken Hill, who appeared in one All-Star game during his 14-year major league career.

It’s not surprising, then, to see a high level of polish and athleticism from Hill. His mechanics are crisp and sound, helping to maximize his good arm strength, and he shows the ability to throw the ball with touch and change speeds.

As a runner, Hill is defined by his toughness. He’s not the fastest or most agile player, but he is capable of putting his shoulder down to pick up key yardage.

After helping Carroll to a state title as a junior, he put up more than 3,300 yards passing as a senior, including 27 touchowns and only three interceptions after throwing nine the year before. On the ground he added another 1,400 yards and scored 33 touchdowns.

Recruitment timeline: Hill committed to Texas A&M back in March 2012, but began looking around in January, taking visits to Baylor and Kansas, though he ultimately decided to sign with the Aggies.
