The Texas A&M Aggies will have to replace starting running back Christine Michael and could do so with the help of 2013 Pearland (Texas) Dawson back James White, who signed with the Aggies on Wednesday.

A consensus four-star prospect considered one of the top running backs in the state of Texas, White is also considered the No. 20 running back nationally and the No. 45 player in the state by the 247Sports composite ranking. The 6-0, 220-pound back held offers from Baylor and Texas Tech prior to his February 2012 pledge to the Aggies, but surely would have had many more options had he opted to extend the recruiting process.

White is perhaps a little taller and more high-cut than ideal for a running back, as he can run a bit high and doesn’t have the low center of gravity that can make shorter, more stout ball-carries more difficult to tackle. However, he makes up for all that with his power and strength, which are impressive due to a strong upper body and significant drive in his legs.

At Texas A&M, White likely won’t be a home-run threat with his lack of top-end speed and short-area quickness, but his toughness and his durability should translate well as a load back, if necessary, and he is certainly a guy who can either work on wearing defenses down or run through them once they are already tired.

As a senior, White took 284 carries for 2,185 yards and 28 touchdowns, numbers that improved on his junior production, which was quite impressive itself.
