2015 DT Daylon Mack names Texas A&M his leader

The Gladewater (Texas) prospect is the early top prospect in the state.

Recruiting in the state of Texas is already well underway for the 2015 class with three prospects having already given their pledges.

In that spirit, it’s not particularly surprising that Gladewater (Texas) defensive tackle Daylon Mack, the top-ranked prospect in the state in the first edition of the Lone Star Recruiting Top 100, has already declared the Texas A&M Aggies as the leader in his recruitment, according to his 247Sports profile page.

However, it is a bit surprising in the sense that with the proliferation of constant recruiting coverage, many prospects opt to decline from naming leaders throughout the process in an effort to avoid the pressure that almost inevitably results from such declarations.

And it’s not like Mack has a shortage of offers, either -- 247Sports reports six for Mack, from Texas, Oklahoma, SMU, TCU, and Texas Tech, in addition to the offer from the Aggies.

What Mack does have at this point is a shortage of perspective, which is hardly a knock on him -- the only trip that he’s taken so far is to College Station, a fact that has surely helped the Aggies claim pole position in his recruitment at this early stage.

The Gladewater star is expected to be in Austin for the Texas spring game this weekend with friend Larry Pryor, a safety from Sulphur Springs who is also one of the top prospects in the 2015 class.

Mack told Hookem.com that he’s excited for the visit ($):

I can’t wait for the visit. I’m really excited to be visiting my childhood favorite. They (Texas) were my team growing up. I’ll be coming in on Friday before the game to look around with my mom, dad and brother. We’ll spend the whole weekend in Austin before heading back on Sunday.

So even though the Aggies are the current leader, there’s still a long way to go for a prospect who should have a national offer list by the end of the spring evaluation period.
