Montel McBride scouting report: sturdy 2014 guard recruit
McBride has an excellent build.

High school and hometown: McBride attends Plant City (Fla.) High School.
Position: McBride is listed as both a defensive tackle and offensive guard.
Height and weight: McBride is massive, standing 6’4 and weighing in at 305 pounds.
Ratings: McBride is rated as a three-star recruit by 247, and has not yet been rated by Scout, Rivals, or ESPN.
Offers: As of February, McBride has offers from Florida State, UCF, FIU, and Ohio. He’s also attracting interest from South Florida and UMass.
Bud Elliott, SB Nation Recruiting: McBride possesses tremendous natural power. He is extremely well put together for a prospect weighing 315 pounds, as he carries very little poor weight. When McBride locks on to a defender he often puts him on the ground. McBride plays with a mean streak.
McBride needs to work on using his God Given talents in a more consistent and efficient manner. Too often he bends at the waist and not at the hip and knee. When he does this, his power is negated, because he is coming off high and not low. Further, McBride does not yet have a great initial punch, and needs to use the power generated by his lower body to be a top lineman. For a player of his size, he does a good job chasing second level defenders.
McBride is raw as a pass protector, but with an improved punch, he should be just fine pass protecting from the guard position due to his ability to anchor. He also profiles as a very good defensive tackle prospect, for many of the reasons listed above.
