4-star Florida safety Trey Marshall ready to commit at Nike’s The Opening

Lake City, Florida native Trey Marshall has caught the eye of several home-state schools, but the versatile safety will head to the other side of the map to announce his decision at Nike’s The Opening.

4-star safety Trey Marshall will make his college decision this weekend in Portland at Nike’s The Opening 2013, with a dozen programs spread across the South eagerly waiting for his choice.

Marshall, a 5’11, 195-pounder who plays for Lake City (Fla.) Columbia, is one of the most versatile safeties in the country, per Bud Elliott’s scouting report. Although he lines up at strong safety, he’s got the pass defending skills of a nickelback and ability to play in the box like a linebacker, all while displaying the necessary athleticism and instinctual play for his true position.

That skillset has him ranked as one of the top safeties in the class of 2014: 24/7’s composite has him as the No. 20 safety in the nation and the 33rd best player in the talent-rich state of Florida. He’s a four-star safety per 247 and Scout, but a three-star player per Rivals and ESPN.

Marshall’s offer sheet includes the big homestate schools Florida, Florida State, Miami and Miami as well as South Florida, as well as SEC squads Arkansas, Georgia, Ole Miss, Vandy, and Tennessee, and a pair of national teams in Louisville and West Virginia.
