Todd Graham has the first four-star in his 2014 class, as Arizona State has reeled in one of the state’s best recruits, 4-star athlete Tyler Whiley.
Arizona State lands 4-star WR/CB Tyler Whiley
Arizona State’s 2014 class is off to a slow start, but it got a big boost with four-star athlete Tyler Whiley, one of the best players in Arizona and an elite prospect whether he plays wide receiver or cornerback.

The 6’1, 187-pounder announced his commitment via Twitter. He plays both cornerback and wide receiver for Paradise Valley (Ariz.) Chaparral, leading to some confusion about what position he’ll play in college, but there’s consensus that he’s quite a good player. He’s a 4-star in all major services, with 247’s composite ranking him as the No. 18 wide receiver in the country, while Rivals lists him as the No. 13 athlete, and ESPN and Scout rank him as the No. 10 and No. 12 cornerback in the nation, respectively. He’s generally considered one of the top 10 players in the state of Arizona, and the first to pledge his commitment to the Sun Devils.
Whiley chose Arizona State over in-state rival Arizona, as well as Pac-12 opponents UCLA, Oregon State, Colorado, and Washington. He also had national programs like Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, and Michigan State vying for his services.
He becomes only the fifth member of the Sun Devils’ class of 2014. If he projects to offense, he’ll be a great option for either of the two quarterbacks in the class, three-stars Manny Wilkins and Coltin Gerhart. For a team that throws as much as Arizona State, they don’t really have a top receiver: last year, nobody surpassed 700 yards receiving, only one of their top four receivers actually played wide receiver, and their top two players at the position, Rashad Ross and Jamal Miles, both graduated this past year.
