Corey Martinez commits to Florida State over Alabama, Miami

The four-star interior lineman chose the Seminoles from more than 20 FBS offers.

Four-star offensive lineman Corey Martinez committed to Florida State on Wednesday, choosing the Seminoles over offers from Alabama, LSU, and Miami, among others. The 6’4, 297-lb. lineman announced his commitment on ESPNU during The Opening 2013.

Martinez plays high school football for Tampa Catholic High School in Tampa, Fla. He received a four-star rating from 24/7, ESPN, and Rivals, while Scout gave him three stars. He held offers from more than 20 FBS programs, including nearly all of the SEC, Notre Dame, West Virginia, and Louisville.

While he plays tackle at the high school level, Martinez is projected at center or guard at the next level. He indicated that FSU sees him at any of the five offensive line positions. SB Nation recruiting analyst Bud Elliott likes Martinez’s footwork and efficiency:

In his highlights he shows good feet. Martinez gets out of his stance well when pulling, and doesn’t waste time turning up field. He also has several nice plays in which he climbs to the second level and grabs a linebacker. Importantly, he doesn’t overextend or chase in the second level, which can lead to more agile defenders jumping around the block. He seems to have a good understanding and feel for angles within the context of the play.
