What college football scholarship letters look like: The good, bad and normal

Great job, Arizona. Not so great, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Naijiel Hale

August 1 marked the point in the annual recruiting cycle at which college football programs were allowed to send formal scholarship offers to recruits.

Since this is 2013, many of those recruits shared those letters via social media. Thus, we likely have the best look in all of recorded human history at what college football scholarship offer letters from around the country look like.

What we’ve learned is that almost all of them are virtually identical. Each has to address the business of the situation: that the prospect must meet NCAA academic requirements and that the scholarship only pays for a specific list of things. Also that the program is impressed with the young man’s on- and off-field achievements and hopes his high school team kills it this week.

First, the scholarship offer letter the streets can’t stop buzzing about:

Virginia

Via The Key Play: “I want to formerly extend a scholarship offer to you.”

We’ll go alphabetical order from here on out, which works out just fine, since Arizona’s is by far the standout, which makes sense given coach Rich Rodriguez’s flair for showmanship.

Illinois

Kentucky

Typos happen. Comic Sans doesn’t just happen. I’m more embarrassed for the Hokies than for their in-state rivals.
