Wake Forest football recruiting 2014: Deacons at bottom of conference rankings

Can Wake Forest climb up out of the bottom of the ACC recruiting rankings?

Jeremy Brevard-US PRESSWIRE

Wake Forest is one of the smallest schools in the FBS, with under 5,000 undergraduates attending the university. Even with an 11-win season in 2006, they’ve never really been able to drag themselves out of the cellar in ACC recruiting, and it’s safe to say that has been a factor in the resulting drop in the quality of football played in Winston-Salem, with four straight losing seasons.

Wake’s 2014 recruiting class finds them at the bottom of the conference again, ranking 72nd nationally in the 247sports composite rankings. That number also puts them dead last in the ACC.

New Deacons

Wake Forest’s two biggest commitments have both come this month - Jaylan Barbour committed at the beginning of the month and Lemar Harris pledged a week later.

Barbour is one of Wake Forest’s top recruits. The wide receiver is out of Monroe (N.C.) High School and is ranked a three-star by the 247sports composite. He is regarded as the 101th-best wide receiver in the country and the 25th-best player in the state.

Harris is another good get for the Demon Deacons. The athlete is out of Milbrook (N.C.) High School and is ranked a three-star by the 247sports composite. He is regarded as the 72nd-best athlete in the country and the 26th-best player in the state.

Cameron Glenn is one of the stars of the class as well. The safety is out of Stephenson (Ga.) High School, and is ranked a three-star by 247sports composite. He is regarded as the 110th-best safety in the country, and the 107th-best player in the state.

Still to come?

Wake Forest is hoping to land Edgar Cerenord, a three-star defensive tackle from American Heritage High School in South Florida. Arkansas seems to be the main competition at this point. Cerenord is a very strong player, and the only knock on him is his height (6’1).
