Bobby Petrino pulls Louisville scholarship for No. 2 FB Daniel Gresham

The Cardinals head coach did not endear himself to Texas high school coaches with his move on Sunday.

The Louisville Cardinals will not have the nation's No. 2 fullback as part of the school's 2014 recruiting class after Fort Worth (Texas) All Saints running back/fullback Daniel Gresham announced via Twitter on Sunday that new head coach Bobby Petrino informed him that Petrino will not honor his scholarship offer.

While at Arkansas, Petrino drew the ire of Texas high school coaches by pulling scholarships from several players from the state and likely did not do himself any favors with the decision on Gresham, either.

A four-star prospect by 247Sports, the 5’10, 230-pound Gresham is the No. 51 player in Texas and the No. 426 player in the country by the 247Sports Composite rankings. Formerly committed to Texas, Gresham also had offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, Missouri, Ohio State, Ole Miss, and Tennessee.

Shortly before committing to Louisville in late June of 2013, Gresham had named Miami his leader following an unofficial visit, and was also considering Ole Miss.

The Hurricanes currently have one running back committed in the 2014 class, but already have 26 pledges, though the six early enrollees in the class could count against a 2013 class that only had 20 signees. The Rebels, meanwhile, have one running back commit among 23 pledges.

It’s not clear yet which schools Gresham is still considering, but he’ll have to scramble to set up official visits with only weeks left until National Signing Day.
