Rashaan Evans Recruit Scouting Report

Evans is one of the top linebackers in his class. Here’s our scouting report on him.

Student Sports

Rashaan Evans, a 6’3, 220 pound outside linebacker out of Auburn, Ala., is one of top defensive prospects still on the board for the 2014 class. He recently wrapped up his senior year at Auburn High School and is now focusing on where he will play his college ball.

Evans is a consensus four-star prospect. 247Sports’ composite rankings rates him as the 49th-best prospect in his class, as well as the No. 3 outside linebacker. ESPN and Rivals also list him as a four-star recruit, while Scout considers him a five-star player. He’s also viewed as the fourth-best recruit from the state of Alabama this year.

Evans has received serious interest from high-profile schools from all over the country. He holds scholarship offers to Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Ole Miss, UCLA and others, and most feel he will eventually wind up playing somewhere in the SEC.

You can follow Rashaan on Twitter: @616evans4. Here are some highlights of him in action:

Bud Elliott, National Recruiting Analyst: Evans is a really special player. He has excellent quickness off the football. He has the frame to eventually play at north of 250 pounds. He has great length to keep opposing blockers out of his breast plate. He has excellent lateral agility and the ability to strafe down the line while keeping his shoulder pads square. He has a good balance, keeping a solid football position, which allows him to play blocks with power, even against much bigger defenders. And he is surprisingly good in pass coverage considering he plays defensive end in high school.

Evans is just a fun defender to evaluate. There are really no true weaknesses in his game. I think he should play outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense, as it will allow him to rush the passer a lot, but also play in space.
