College Football Recruiting Roundup: UCLA has a big day

Don’t miss: Where will the top uncommitted recruits sign?

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Plenty of excellent recruiting coverage can be found from around the SB Nation network. Wednesday was a big day for UCLA.

Pac-12

Kolton Miller commits to UCLA

The Bruins picked up a commitment on Monday from three-star offensive tackle Kolton Miller of Roseville (Calif.) High School. The 6’8, 280 lineman is ranked the No. 30 offensive tackle and the No. 358 overall prospect in the 2014 class according to the 247Sports Composite index. For what it’s worth, there seems to be a wide variance in opinion on Miller. While Scout has Miller as a three-star prospect, 247Sports independent ranking lists him as a four-star and the 149th-best player in the entire cycle and the 13th-best offensive tackle.

Four-star Buckeye commit plans UCLA trip

Offensive guard Demetrius Knox of Fort Worth (Texas) All Saints Episcopal has been committed to Ohio State since July, but Bruins offensive line coach Adrian Clemm convinced Knox to take an official visit UCLA on Jan. 31. Knox is the No. 5 offensive guard per the 247Sports Composite and No. 97 overall prospect in the 2014 class. If the Bruins are able to get Knox to flip from Ohio State, it would represent a massive win for Jim Mora’s program.

Carta-Samuels has ‘eye-opening’ visit to Boise

The decommitment of K.J. Carta-Samuels from Vanderbilt represents one entry in the long list of collateral damage caused by James Franklin’s decision to leave Nashville to accept the head job at Penn State. The Commodores’ 2014 recruiting class has been falling apart at the seams over the past week and opportunistic programs like Boise State have swooped in to pick up the spare parts. One of those is four-star quarterback (and brother of Austyn) K.J. Carta-Samuels, who made the trip out to Boise last weekend to take in what the Broncos and new head coach Bryan Harsin have to offer and liked what he saw.
