Dalton Schultz is arguably the best tight end in the country and has an offer list that reflects the high regard with which he is held. The 6’5, 225-pound Class of 2014 prospect plays his high school ball at South Jordan (Utah) Bingham.

Schultz is a consensus four-star prospect, according the four major recruiting services, and two of them (Scout and ESPN) rank him as the best tight end in the 2014 class. Rivals places him second at his position and 247Sports slots him in at No. 4.
As of December, Schultz held offers from Notre Dame, Stanford, Utah, Washington, Arizona, Arizona State, Nebraska, UCLA, Southern Cal, Oklahoma and Wisconsin.

It starts up front with Schultz, as he is a good blocker. He explodes through his hips, with good bend and leverage to clear defenders out of the way. And he does it both from a two-point and three-point stance. His blocking in the open field is quite good, as well.
I do not think Schultz is the best receiving tight end. His hands are sure, but he doesn’t seem to have great ability to get away from pass defenders, at least compared to other elite receiving tight ends. His lack of separation, however, does allow him to show his ability to make contested catches.
Schultz does seem to have a good feel for sitting down against zone defenses, finding the soft spots and presenting a big target to his quarterback. And he is a bit better after the catch than I expected.
