2015 S Larry Pryor commits to the Texas A&M Aggies

A Junior Day visit last weekend produced the offer from the Texas A&M Aggies that Sulphur Springs (Texas) safety Larry Pryor was waiting for and it didn’t take him long to decide that he wants to become an Aggie, as the versatile East Texas standout committed on Thursday evening.

The 6’1, 190-pound safety played quarterback as a junior and has spent time at wide receiver during his Sulphur Springs career. Pryor has also lettered in basketball, baseball, and track since his freshman season. A consensus four-star prospect, the newest Aggie pledge is ranked as the No. 6 safety nationally, the No. 12 player in the state of Texas, and the No. 86 player overall in the 247Sports Composite rankings. He also held offers from Arkansas, Baylor, LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, and Texas.

New Texas head coach Charlie Strong had recently visited Sulphur Springs, but it was not enough to convince Pryor to give the Longhorns a shot, a trend that has solidified recently as the Aggies have taken over recruiting in the state of Texas.

The fact that the Aggies now have three member of the so-called “Fab Five” committed only provides further proof of that. Gladewater (Texas) defensive tackle Daylon Mack, Whitehouse (Texas) safety/outside linebacker Justin Dunning, and Pryor are already committed to head coach Kevin Sumlin, while Mesquite (Texas) Poteet linebacker Malik Jefferson and Longview running back Jamycal Hasty remain uncommitted.

And to what extent is recruiting for the Aggies rolling right now? Even when big-time commitments like that of Pryor go down, the focus is still on which prospect will be next to join the mass of recruits flocking to play football in College Station.

What are the Aggies getting in Pryor? For one, a player who adjusted well enough to the quarterback passing to rack up more than 3,700 total yards and 42 touchdowns, a sign of his natural athleticism. As a runner, Pryor has the explosiveness to find seams in the defense and outrun defenders, while showing the strength to break arm tackles.

Those quick feet translate to impressive range as a safety, though Pryor can at times fail to wrap up and use his shoulder instead, though he is capable of delivering impressive hits in that manner.

Pryor is now the seventh pledge in the 2015 class for the Aggies, which now features six four-star prospects and one five-star prospect in Mack. The group ranks No. 1 in the SEC and No. 1 nationally in the 247Sports Composite team rankings.
