4-star OT Roderick Johnson commits to Florida State over Ohio State

A strong Florida State recruiting class was further bolstered on National Signing Day after four-star offensive tackle Roderick Johnson chose the Seminoles over the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The rich get richer once again.

Florida State, which saw strong offensive line play on their way to an undefeated season and a national championship this season, have added one of the top offensive linemen in the nation. Four-star offensive tackle Roderick Johnson has committed to the Seminoles, adding another piece to Jimbo Fisher’s 2014 class.

Listed at 6’6 and 315 pounds, the massive offensive tackle attends Hazelwood Central (Mo.) and hails from Florissant. A consensus four-star recruit, he’s considered one of the top 25 offensive tackles in the nation by each of the four major recruiting services, with Scout’s No. 7 ranking his highest.

The 247sports composite, which aggregates the ratings of all four major recruiting services, rates Johnson a four-star. The composite also ranks him as the 123rd-best player in the class, the 12th-best offensive tackle in the country and the second-best player from the state of Missouri.

Bud Elliott, SB Nation’s recruiting guru as well as manager at Florida State blog Tomahawk Nation, had high praise for the big offensive tackle:

From the start, Florida State liked Roderick Johnson a lot, and he reciprocated. Many felt that Johnson would have committed already to Florida State several times, but the big man told other Florida State prospects that he’s just waiting to have his moment on National Signing Day. FSU feels very confident in its chances over Ohio State here. Johnson has good flexibility for such a large man, though he is rather raw. Florida State returns seven upperclassmen on the offensive line and is bringing in two JUCO prospects, but I am not convinced that Johnson is going to redshirt. He may be able to grab one of the second-team offensive tackle spots and provide quality depth early on. Johnson is one of the 10-best offensive tackle recruits in the country for my money.

Johnson chose Florida State over Alabama and Ohio State, among other offers. Johnson spoke about his recruitment before signing day.
