Four-star linebacker Kenny Young of New Orleans committed to the Bruins on National Signing Day, joining one of the top recruiting classes for 2014.

Young hails from New Orleans and starred at John Curtis High School, leading the Patriots to a state title last season. He received serious interest from schools all over the country, earning at least 23 scholarship offers. Most experts felt his other three schools were Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and LSU.

Young checks in at 6’2, 220 pounds, giving him a solid frame to continue growing into once he hits a college weight room. 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings list him as the 175th-best recruit in the 2014 class, as well as the No. 7 inside linebacker and No. 12 player from the state of Louisiana.

Earlier this year, Young was a standout at the U.S. Army All-American Game.

He ended the half with a sack of Caleb Henderson, who had just broken three other tackles before Young came crashing in to take him down.

Young credits his practice habits with being able to help him make plays in the game and said that didn’t change this week going against his fellow All-Americans.

“I practice up-tempo,” Young said. “I practice the way I practice for a certain reason. My approach from practice just came over into the game. It’s just an effort thing. That’s just something that I was born with and God blessed me with talent also. That’s what allowed me to make those plays.”
