Dexter Wideman flips from Florida State to South Carolina

Wideman originally committed to Florida State in July, but he decided South Carolina was the place for him as National Signing Day rolled around.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Dexter Wideman, a four-star defensive tackle out of Saluda High School in South Carolina, flipped his commitment from Florida State to South Carolina on National Signing Day.

Wideman originally committed to the Seminoles on July 22. That did not stop him from making the short trip to Columbia in mid-January to check out South Carolina, and he eventually decided he wanted to spend the next few years as a Gamecock. He also visited Tallahassee on Jan. 31, though the visit was not enough to prevent him from flipping his commitment to USC.

Wideman is listed by 247Sports Composite rankings as the 165th-best player in the 2014 class. He is also ranked as the 14th-best defensive tackle, as well as the fourth-best player from South Carolina.

At 6’4 and 255 pounds, Wideman will need to add some some heft in a college weight program before he can be an every-down option in the SEC. He possesses a quick first step and an excellent motor, though, and there is no denying he is one of the top defensive linemen in the 2014 class.
