5-star Chuma Edoga commits to USC over Georgia, Tennessee

Score one for the Pac-12 in SEC country.

Offensive tackle Chuma Edoga chose USC over Tennessee and home-state Georgia on Monday, a little more than two weeks after visiting the Trojans’ campus. Edoga, a product of McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Ga., is rated as a five-star recruit by 247 and the 247 composite ratings, and a four-star by Rivals, Scout and ESPN. He ranks as the fourth-best offensive tackle and the 27th-best overall player in the 2015 class in the 247 composite ratings, as well as the fourth-best prospect in the state of Georgia.

Besides his top three, Edoga also had offers from Stanford — which made his top four — Texas A&M, Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State, Florida and Clemson, among others. Though he eventually decided on USC, Edoga wasn’t set on becoming a Trojan throughout the recruiting process. He grew up rooting for Georgia, and for a while, Tennessee was his leader.

While Edoga lives in the South, he won’t be leaving his entire sense of home when he gets to Los Angeles. He says that he has family in California, which helped USC and Stanford remain in the running for so long. Academics are important to Edoga, and both of the California schools he considered boast strong academic programs.

Even though Edoga will need to put on some weight to be an effective Division I offensive lineman, he has great quickness and athletic ability for his size. He dominated a Nike camp with a performance that earned him an invite to the prestigious The Opening camp at Nike’s headquarters.

(T)he 6’3, 277-pound Edoga turned in an incredible 4.86 40-yard dash, and other impressive testing numbers as well. But he wasn’t just a workout warrior -- he also dominated during 1-on-1s, showing very quick feet and a mean streak.

Edoga becomes the fourth commit in USC’s 2015 class and the second five-star, joining pro-style quarterback Ricky Town. Before Edoga’s commitment, the Trojans’ class ranked 38th nationally and fourth in the Pac-12, according to 247.
