Many of the top quarterbacks in the state of Texas, as well as passers from other parts of the country, will descend on AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Sunday to participate in the Dallas Elite 11 event in hopes of earning an invitation to the finals, which will be held in Oregon in July.
Elite 11 finalist Kyler Murray headlines Dallas Elite 11 event
Sunday’s event will also feature a number of other talented signal callers.
The headliner is consensus five-star Allen (Texas) passer Kyler Murray, who earned an invitation to the Elite 11 finals back at the Dallas Nike Football Training Camp, but will take the opportunity to work with the excellent coaching staff to continue improving.
By the time he takes the field at AT&T Stadium, he could be committed to the school of his choice, as rumors swirled late Wednesday and into Thursday that he’s ready to make his decision.
In the 2015 class, the other hopefuls to join Murray at the Nike facility in Oregon several months from now include Texas Tech commit Jarrett Stidham, the consensus four-star Stephenville (Texas) dual threat who played quarterback in high school for the first time last fall and is immensely talented, but showed at the Dallas NFTC that he still needs to improve in some areas of his mechanics.
There’s also West Mesquite (Texas) four-star prospect Chason Virgil, Norman (Okla.) North’s John Kolar, an Oklahoma State commit who replaced Alabama signee David Cornwell last fall after the big quarterback went down with an injury, and Boerne (Texas) pro-style passer Quentin Dormady, who is trying to prove to college coaches that he has recovered from the shoulder injury that kept him from playing last fall.
Among the true dual threats with steps to take as prospects to stay at the position in college are Missouri City (Texas) Marshall’s JW Ketchum and recent North Carolina commit Nathan Elliott, who plays for Celina (Texas).
One of the youngest prospects in attendance will be Zadock Dinkelmann of Somerset (Texas), a member of the 2018 class who is already committed to LSU. He’s the nephew of Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer.
In the 2016 class, Marble Falls (Texas) quarterback Brennan Wooten is one of the early candidates to earn the honor of the top quarterback in the state and has benefitted from working with former Southlake (Texas) Carroll and North Texas head coach Todd Dodge, who now makes his living out in the Texas Hill Country.
However, the 2016 quarterback who will take center stage is Lake Stevens (Wash.) product Jacob Eason, a pro-style prospect who is currently considered the top overall pro-style passer in the class, is ranked as a five-star prospect by 247Sports, and sits at No. 5 nationally in the entire class.
As a result, there will be some high expectations attached to his performance on Sunday.
There’s also dual-threat Devin Williams out of Mansfield (Texas) Timberview and DeSoto (Texas) dual-threat Tristen Wallace, who ended up missing the Dallas NFTC due to other recruiting obligations.
With all the talent on hand, it would hardly be a surprise to see at least one invitation to the finals go out from this star-studded event.
