Kendrell McFadden recruit scouting report: Long safety
McFadden, out of Miramar High School in Hollywood, Fla., stands 6’3.5 and weighs in at 193 pounds. As of May, he is rated as a four-star by 247Sports, Scout, Rivals and ESPN. The 247Sports Composite, a compilation of data from all four major recruiting services, ranks him as the No. 203 recruit in the nation, 13th-best safety and 30th-best player in the state of Florida.
He claims scholarship offers from West Virginia, Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Texas A&M.

I have seen McFadden several times in person, and have also looked at his games on Hudl.
McFadden has excellent length for a defensive back, and that is what I think is attracting colleges to him as a prospect. He seemingly has good instincts, and could be a decent player in a zone scheme, particularly once he adds more bulk to his wiry frame to help with run support.
McFadden does not have the hips or feet, however, to play a lot of man coverage, either as a corner or safety at the major college football level.
Hopefully McFadden proves me wrong, and I mean no disrespect to him in any way, but I do not agree with where he is rated as of May. I do not believe he is a top-300 overall player or a top-15 safety prospect, and think he should be rated three stars instead of four. He has some upside, but is going to require coaching and more significant development time than some other highly rated prospects.
