4-star RB Jordan Scarlett commits to Miami at The Opening

Jordan Scarlett, a top-tier Class of 2015 running back, announced his college decision at The Opening Tuesday night. Scarlett will play his college football for the Miami Hurricanes.

Scarlett, out of St. Thomas Aquinas in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., stands 5’11 and weighs in at 210 pounds. The 247sports composite, a compilation of data from the major recruiting services, rates him as a four-star prospect, the 97th-best player in America, 10th-best running back and 17th-best player from the state of Florida.

Scarlett is being recruited by nearly every major program across the country. He chose the Hurricanes over Florida State, Ohio State, South Carolina, Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas, USC, Alabama and Auburn, among many, many others.

SB Nation recruiting analyst Bud Elliott says there is quite a bit to like about Scarlett.

I have heard some say that he does not have good speed. I disagree. He has very good size for a player entering his senior season, and he posted a 4.48 40-yard dash at the Miami Nike Camp, which is fantastic given the turf surface. To put that in perspective, more than 50 eventual FBS-level players attended the camp, and Miami is probably the fastest recruiting city in the country, and only one player on the day posted a better time. And that is consistent with what I timed him at during a combine in 2012.

This is backed up by his play on the field. Though he is not the fastest player in pads, there are several examples of Scarlett turning the corner and taking plays the distance.
