Hallandale (Fla.) prospect Joshua Hammond is one of the top wide receivers in Florida, holding an offer list that includes both local and national powers. SB Nation talked with the prospect at Nike’s Miami camp Saturday to discuss his recruitment.
Joshua Hammond discusses recruiting by Ohio State, Florida and Duke
SB Nation caught up with the wide receiver prospect, the younger brother of former Gators wideout Frankie Hammond.
Rated a three-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite, Hammond ranks as the No. 89 wide receiver in the country and the No. 76 player in Florida. He claims offers from LSU, Florida, Florida State, Nebraska, Notre Dame and Ohio State, among others.
The 6’1, 180-pound receiver said he’s hearing the most from Ohio State, Florida and Duke, and is hoping to visit Columbus in March as well as Alabama and Notre Dame in the near future.
He has a family connection to one of those three programs -- older brother Frankie, currently with the Kansas City Chiefs, played for former Florida coaches Urban Meyer and Will Muschamp in Gainesville.
Duke’s presence in his recruitment stands out against some of his other offers, but Hammond is a fan of their pass-heavy offense and strong academic reputation.
“My parents have always preached education since I was in kindergarten,” he said. “So that’s something that will be a big factor for me.”
