Cordell Broadus, a four-star prospect and the 26th-ranked wide receiver in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite ratings, announced his commitment to UCLA on National Signing Day. Best known as Snoop Dogg’s son, Broadus will now carve his own path as a college football player, hoping to build off the name he made for himself in recruiting. He ranked 222nd nationally in the Composite ratings and has a 0.9095 rating overall.

The four-star wide receiver announced his choice live on Wednesday.
Broadus’ recruitment was well-documented due to his father’s fame, but he earned himself a very good offer list. Arizona State, LSU, and USC were listed among his finalists, but the Bruins were considered the favorite ahead of the Trojans, to his father’s dismay. (“I’m throwing all my USC drawers away. I’m 100,000 percent UCLA now,” Snoop told ESPNU after the commit.)
He also had offers from Florida State, Notre Dame, Baylor, Nebraska and Miami, among others. He took an official visit to Arizona State during the season.
“Cordell doesn’t want to be known as Snoop Dogg’s son,” a former coach said in this behind-the-scenes story. “He wants to be known as Cordell Broadus, blue-chip wide receiver. He’s very humble. He just enjoys playing football. Last year he was really shy. This year, he’s more talkative. The kids are liking him more and more.”
Broadus was selected to be part of the 2015 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He was also invited to Nike’s showcase event, “The Opening.” A local of Las Vegas, Nev., Broadus stands at 6’2 and weighs 195 pounds.

”At this stage in his development, Broadus is best at the catch point and on run-after-catch opportunities. He doesn’t create the kind of separation you’d like to see from a recruit of his caliber, as a large amount of his catches are contested. He does win a ton at the catch point, however. Broadus doesn’t have the top-end speed to consistently threaten defenses vertically so he’ll have to improve at winning in the short to intermediate areas of the field.
“Broadus is a physical player as well, despite his slender frame. He has good burst after the catch, plays with no fear of contact, and runs out of arm tackle attempts. From a blocking standpoint, he is very engaged when the ball isn’t in his hands. He throws his body around, laying out unsuspecting defensive backs on run plays or when other receivers are weaving through traffic after the catch in the open field.”
