USC athletic director protesting Indiana law by skipping Playoff meeting

Pat Haden will not be traveling to Indianapolis this week.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Indiana recently passed a controversial “religious freedom” bill, which appears to allow businesses to discriminate against LGBT customers. Sports organizations like the NCAA, the Big Ten Conference and USA Gymnastics, all of whom hold events in the state, have publicly expressed concern over the bill.

One such event is the College Football Playoff selection committee meeting, held in Indianapolis. USC Athletic Director Pat Haden is the latest to take a stand -- this one a bit more personal -- as he will not be attending the meeting:

Governors from Connecticut and Washington have banned state-funded travel to Indiana as a result of the bill. Hobby game convention Gen Con is also considering pulling future events from the state. Former athletes Charles Barkley and Reggie Miller have also spoken out against the bill.
