Four-star dual threat quarterback Jawon Pass chose Louisville over Alabama and Auburn Thursday in an announcement at his school.
4-star QB Jawon Pass commits to Louisville over Alabama and Auburn
The Cardinals land their top QB target.
At 6’5, 220 pounds, Pass is already an imposing figure in the backfield, and can make plays with both his arm and legs. Pass is quite raw when it comes to reading defenses and making quick decisions, but if he is developed properly and given time, the reward could be substantial, especially when combined with his running ability. And he thinks Bobby Petrino is just the man to do it.
“Coach Petrino is an offensive-minded guy,” Pass told SB Nation during the Elite 11 Finals Camp. “I have a good chance of playing early there.”
“Just was where my heart was at,” Pass added during his announcement ceremony. “I just felt like Auburn wasn’t going to prepare me for the next level.”
Pass’ brother Khane, a safety from the class of 2015 also choosing Louisville last cycle didn’t hurt the Cardinal’s chances, either.
The Columbus (Ga.) Carver star was also the highest-rated quarterback recruit in the 2016 class that was still uncommitted. He’s a top-200 overall prospect according to the 247 Composite Index, and is the No. 4 dual threat quarterback in the 2016 class. He has a long list of offers aside from his three finalists, including LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Texas A&M, Florida, Oregon, Clemson, Nebraska, and more.
All three of his finalists already had quarterback commits in the fold, but it’s not totally unusual for a team to take two quarterbacks in one class, as all three of them have done it since 2013. Alabama and Auburn already have four-star quarterback commits in Jalen Hurts and Woody Barrett, and Louisville already had the commitment of three-star quarterback Tylin Oden.
