During college football’s Early Signing Period, the Maryland Terrapins inked a kicker named Joseph Petrino. This blog posts exists because Petrino can do this:
Maryland signed a kicker WHO CAN KICK WITH EITHER LEG
Don’t let anyone tell you Maryland’s not a Big Ten school.

Look at this! This kid is dropping footballs through the uprights from 50 and 60 yards away! And he’s doing it with whichever leg he chooses!
Since Maryland joined the Big Ten in 2014, an occasional rebuke has been that Maryland isn’t really a Big Ten School because it shares coastal sensibilities with the ACC more than it has anything in common with the Midwestern Big Ten.
Well: Maryland now has a kicker who can demolish long-range field goals with either leg. Short of having a punter who can routinely pin the other team inside the 2-yard line on 42-yard punts on fourth-and-3, there’s nothing in the world that’s more Big Ten than that. My school’s conference bona-fides have never been stronger.
Petrino’s the No. 10 kicker in the class of 2018, per the 247Sports Composite. His ability to kick with either leg might be a real onside kick weapon.
