Four-star wide receiver Henry Ruggs III (6’0, 175 pounds, Montgomery, Ala.) announced on National Signing Day that he will be playing his college years at Alabama. He also reportedly considered Florida State, but the Tide pulled ahead late in his recruitment.
4-star WR Henry Ruggs III stays home and commits to Alabama over FSU
The Alabama prospect is staying home.

Ruggs is the No. 11 ranked wide receiver in the 2017 class, and the No. 2 overall player out of the state of Alabama, according to the 247Sports Composite. Prior to making his commitment, he was pretty highly-touted, holding 19 offers, including ones from Alabama, Florida State, Florida, Auburn and Louisville. In January, Ruggs took official visits to both Florida State and Alabama.
Ruggs was also a member of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, playing for the East team. He was able to score a 61-yard touchdown during the game.
Ruggs’ commitment to Alabama makes for an exciting addition to the Tide’s receiving corps, which lost ArDarius Stewart, Gehrig Deiter and O.J. Howard after the 2016 season. If quarterback Jalen Hurts is asked to throw the ball a lot more than he did in his first season, having a guy like Ruggs to throw to is a big plus.
Ruggs can run a wide array of routes. He’s pulled off big plays on fly patterns down the sideline, screens behind one or two blockers, slants over the middle, and more. His talents are diverse, and they’re all underlined by 4.4 speed. He’ll be a good one.
