Four-star North Shore (Texas) defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson (6’4, 211 pounds) committed to LSU over Texas, which had been considered a narrow favorite to land him. He’s a great get for Ed Orgeron and the Tigers.

Chaisson’s one of the best edge rushers in the class of 2017.


Chaisson is the No. 4 weak-side defensive end out of the 2017 class, and he’s the No. 5 overall player from the state of Texas, according to 247Sports Composite. Chaisson had a very busy month of January as he took official visits to USC, Colorado, Texas, and LSU.
He announced his decision at a ceremony at his high school. Chaisson said his decision came down to the last week before Signing Day.
The big-time Texas recruit played in the Under Armour All-America Game in January. That game attracts many of the nation’s top prospects every year.
On film, Chaisson’s a great mix of quickness and strength. He can outrace an offensive tackle on the edge, or he can push him backward and into his quarterback. He’s really quick, enabling him to shoot through gaps to get after the QB whenever they open up. He’s still lanky, and he’ll probably have to put on some weight to reach the height of his potential. But there is clearly a whole lot of potential.
You want to talk about a defensive lineman landing spot? Chaisson landing on the Bayou is big for a program that is anecdotally renowned for churning out talented prospects. the Tigers are predicated on defensive speed, and with Chaisson in the mix that brand will continue.
Chaisson had to wait to send his National Letter of Intent, for a reason anyone could understand. But things worked out for him in the end.
