4-star WR Jeff Thomas commits to Miami over Tennessee, Oregon, and Illinois

Thomas is a speedster.

Student Sports

Four-star wide receiver Jeff Thomas will play college football at Miami, he announed on Wednesday. He chose the Hurricanes over Illinois, Tennessee, and Oregon.

At 5’10, 175 pounds, Thomas is the No. 6 wide receiver in the country, and the No. 2 prospect out of the state of Illinois according to the 247Sports Composite. Thomas held offers from at least 18 other schools, including Illinois and Tennessee.

The wide receiver’s month of January was a busy one. At the beginning, he played in the Under Armour All-America Game, during which he was named the MVP for Team Armour. He hauled in two touchdowns and had 148 receiving yards, which was a new Under Armour All-America Game record. After the game, Thomas named Illinois his leader.

Miami made quite the late push for the wideout. He took a visit to Miami on Jan. 20, and he got visits from UM coaches before and after his time on campus. Although Thomas originally planned on taking a visit to Illinois, it never came.

It sounds like Thomas was set on staying close to home. That is, until Miami started recruiting him hard during the last month of his recruiting process. The Canes are pretty loaded on the receiving front, but Thomas’ skill set will definitely allow for Mark Richt to find a place for him in his offense.

On film, Thomas shows some impressive speed and elusiveness. His 175-pound frame makes him more of a spread-the-field-type receiver, but the quickness and footwork he has upfield are imposing.
