National Signing Day has lots of surprises. One of this year’s biggest was the commitment of four-star Trezevant (Tenn.) running back Cordarrian Richardson to Maryland. The Terps weren’t even on his radar, according to most reporting.
4-star Cordarrian Richardson signs at UCF after OUTER SPACE commit to Maryland
Here’s a surprise, on a few levels.

And yet, he picked them. And he did it from outer space.
In conjunction with the video team at Bleacher Report, Richardson apparently sent a weather balloon with a camera way up into the sky. Graphics artists laid out four team logos: Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Michigan State, and Maryland. And at the end of the video, the camera fixed itself on a Maryland logo, appearing in space over the horizon.
It’s a cool video and a cool way to commit. It’s worth emphasizing how completely surprising it was, too. Richardson hadn’t listed Maryland among his finalists, and the Terps already had a bunch of running backs committed in their 2017 class. They landed another four-star, Anthony McFarland, just days ago.
And it turns out Richardson’s commitment didn’t last long.
Maryland didn’t announce him with its signing class later on Wednesday. And on Thursday, UCF coach Scott Frost announced Richardson would join the Knights.
The Richardson era at Maryland was short but memorable.
