4-star QB Gerry Bohanon commits to Baylor and gives the Bears a dynamic dual-threat

Bohanon is a great athlete with upside as a passer.

Four-star class of 2018 quarterback Gerry Bohanon committed to Baylor on Tuesday, on the eve of college football’s Early Signing Period.

The most tantalizing college football recruit is the quarterback who can burn defenses with either his arm or his legs. Bohanon’s one of those quarterbacks.

The Earle (Ark.) junior is the No. 11 dual-threat signal caller in the class and the top player in Arkansas, according to the 247Sports Composite. Bohanon is a track athlete with top-end speed and agility, and he’s got plenty of arm talent to work with. His accuracy is a ways from a finished product, but the upside is obvious. Bohanon throws a good ball with plenty of zip, and if he can pinpoint it, he’ll be great.

Bohanon (first name pronounced like “Gary”) is up over a dozen scholarship offers now, and his list will grow between now and the early signing period in December.

Bohanon doesn’t view himself as a run-first guy. Consider the college and pro greats he models his game after.

Deshaun Watson, he’s not a dual threat, but he’s a pocket passer. To me, he just also can run,” Bohanon told SB Nation at a Nike camp last weekend in Charlotte. “And Aaron Rodgers, his arm is just amazing. The type of throws he can make and the position he can throw ‘em in, I’ve never seen ‘em before.”

Bohanon thinks he’ll offer a diverse array of talents.

“I believe I’ll bring a little confusion for the defense because I can sit in the pocket and throw,” he said. “Also, I can take off and run with it, too, and throwing on the run is a strength of mine, too. So I feel like it’ll be hard for a team to take care of.”

At Earle, Bohanon ran a spread offense. For the most part, that’s where the college game is heading (and has already headed, really.)

“In college, they run the pro-style, too, so I’ll have to work on that, too,” he said. “The pro style and also the spread.”
