Kelvin Joseph, one of 2018’s best defensive backs, commits to LSU
After a change of heart in early October, the four-star safety has committed to the Tigers.

The No. 4 safety among the 2018 recruiting class, Joseph also ranks as the No. 3 overall player out of Louisiana and the No. 36 overall player in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s the class’ No. 4 safety.
The 6’1.5, 191-pound ball hawk held offers from many of the top programs in the FBS, including Florida State, LSU, Alabama, and Auburn. During his 2015 and 2016 seasons playing for Scotlandville Magnet, Joseph claimed 123 total tackles, 22 pass breakups, and five interceptions.
After initially committing to LSU, Joseph announced in October he was re-opening his recruiting despite still considering his home-state team the No. 1 option. In the months since, programs like Alabama and Auburn stepped up their efforts to land the top-rated safety, and Joseph even took a visit to Florida State.
Why so many teams want Joseph
Joseph received 20-plus offers because of his size-and-speed combination. Joseph looks like a player who has already been in a college strength program for some time. He is a physical presence and understands how to use his strength, both in press coverage and against the run. Joseph also has some versatility — if he continues to fill out, he has the temperament to make a successful move to safety. — Bud Elliott.
