Desmond Howard agrees college football won’t be the same without Lee Corso, but Samsung is here to help

We have reached Week 1 of the college football season and what a wonderful time it is to be alive.

There is no question that Week 0 matters and counts, but with all due respect to Iowa State and Kansas State (this Sun Devil knows who owns the Big 12, by the way)… the real show starts this weekend.

Even though college football is back and that is incredible, there is a part of us all that is going to be a little bit conflicted when College GameDay begins this week. The crew will be in Columbus to get ready for the National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes to host the Texas Longhorns, but the show will serve as the final one for the legendary Lee Corso.

You can make the argument that college football simply isn’t what it is without Coach Corso. His analysis and personality have been a part of so many pivotal moments for all of us as we have watched over the years. While we will miss him, at least we can rest knowing that he will have quite the setup to watch the game he loves thanks to the fine folks at Samsung.

The great Desmond Howard showed Coach Corso what he is going to be working with this season. It is sick.

Desmond sat down with me to talk about Coach Corso’s retirement and noted what an influence he has been on the GameDay crew and college football at large. That is hard to disagree with.

It is clear that Coach Corso has had an immeasurable impact on all of those around him, something that the millions who have watched for all of this time can certainly feel through our television screens. And speaking of TVs… Starting this Monday, August 25th to CFB kick off on Sunday, September 7th, fans can join in on the action get their own legendary fan-worthy TV set up featuring the Samsung Neo QLED 4K TV at nearly 50% off using the promo code TVLIKELEE at checkout.

For what it’s worth Desmond thinks that we are in for an incredible college football season. He expressed some confidence in my Sun Devils as well as my Florida Gators, although the latter is certainly on much shakier ground. Some of that has to do with the competition level in the SEC.

On the subject of conferences though, given Desmond’s history and success within the Big Ten I was curious how he feels about that conference emerging as the power one within the landscape of college football hierarchy. As noted the Buckeyes are reigning champions and they knocked off the Michigan Wolverines in the process of getting there (even if they literally lost that game).

Could we see a third straight National Championship won by a Big Ten school? Maybe Penn State? If that were to happen, what would that say? Would the Big Ten be the premier conference as far as college football is concerned?

Desmond wouldn’t go quite that far — you can’t get too carried away with predictions in August after all — but he did note that it would really send a statement that the Big Ten was the place to play.

We will see what this season has in store soon enough.
