Maryland adds football series with Rutgers, UCF for future

Maryland has a few holes to fill in each of the next few seasons’ schedules, and the Rutgers and Central Florida games will fill some of them in.

Maryland has committed to new matchups with Rutgers and Central Florida, addressing some of its recent scheduling concerns.

Changes to the ACC -- the addition of Pittsburgh, Syracuse, and Notre Dame (who while not in the ACC will play five ACC opponents each season) -- have created new scheduling obstacles for the Terrapins.

Maryland has a few holes to fill in their schedule, and the Rutgers and Central Florida games will fill some of them in.

The Rutgers series will be a home-and-home starting in 2014 with a game in College Park. The Terps won’t make their trip to New Jersey until 2019. Maryland and Rutgers have only met twice in the last 70 years (2007 and 2009), with each team winning one of those games.

Maryland will also host Central Florida in 2016, according to the Washington Times. The two schools have never met up in a football game.

When Pittsburgh and Syracuse announced that they would be joining the ACC, teams were originally going to be required to play nine conference games each season. But the addition of Notre Dame last month forced the conference to lower that number to eight, giving increased flexibility to ACC schools.
