A.J. McCarron knee injury: Alabama starting QB helped off Mizzou field

Alabama starting quarterback A.J. McCarron had to be helped off the field Saturday after suffering an apparent leg injury.

Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback A.J. McCarron went down with what looked to be a leg injury Saturday against the Missouri Tigers, having to leave the field with assistance. It's a right knee injury, according to CBS' Tracy Wolfson, after a tangle in the rainy turf with Mizzou's Sheldon Richardson.

Update: McCarron is back on the field, with a knee brace.

He was walking on the sideline with a limp, surrounded by a crew of trainers. He’s now been placed on an examination table, attempting to bend his leg while trainers blow cool air on his joint. The Missouri turf has been slick with heavy rains all day -- at one point, the game was suspended for a half of an hour due to lightning, and the weather’s shown no signs of letting up.

McCarron is backed by Phillip Ely, a freshman who's attempted three passes all year.
