Jackson Jeffcoat injury: Star Texas DE done for the year

The Longhorns defensive end will require season-ending surgery on a ruptured pectoral muscle.

Texas Longhorns star defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat suffered a right pectoral rupture against the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday and is our for the season, according to a team press release. The son of former Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Jim Jeffcoat had previously injured his left pectoral muscle and required surgery as well in 2011.

Jeffcoat has started all six games for the Longhorns this season, picking up 31 tackles, nine tackles-for-loss, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles before suffering the injury against Oklahoma on Saturday. In 2011, Jeffcoat had 71 total tackles in 13 games with eight sacks.

The Texas Longhorns, who started the season 4-0, have now lost their last two games against No. 13 West Virginia and No. 9 Oklahoma. The Texas defense struggled mightily in both games, allowing 63 points and 677 total yards against the Sooners in Dallas on Saturday.

The Texas Longhorns take on the Baylor Bears, Sat. Oct. 20 at 8 p.m. ET, with coverage on ABC.
