South Carolina will play in college football’s Thursday night opener for the second consecutive season when they host UNC in 2013.


This will be the second consecutive season that South Carolina will open on Thursday. This year, the Gamecocks defeated Vanderbilt, 17-13, in the season opener.
Since 1903, the two teams have played each other 55 times with North Carolina winning 34 of the contests. The two teams last played in 2007 when South Carolina defeated North Carolina by a 21-15 margin. South Carolina has won four of the last five meetings between the two teams dating back to 1988.
Seventh ranked South Carolina is 6-1 this season and are coming off a 23-21 loss to No. 6 LSU. The Gamecocks travel to take on second ranked Florida Gators this week.
Unranked North Carolina is 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the ACC after winning four games in a row including victories over Virginia Tech and Miami (FL). The Tar Heels will travel to play Duke this Saturday.
