If Nick Saban to Cleveland Browns rumors have legs, they’re really short legs

Former NFL coach Nick Saban has No. 1 Alabama in position to win its third national title in four years. If he gives the pros another shot, would it really be with the Cleveland Browns?

Jamie Squire

There’s a rumor out there right now that the restructuring Cleveland Browns want Alabama’s Nick Saban to be their next head coach. This is not a shocking rumor, as approximately 115 or so FBS programs would also like Nick Saban to be their next head coach.

Radio reports are what they are, and here is the report on said radio report:

[Update: 92.3 The Fan says the Saban story, “was not reported on our station (92.3 the Fan in Cleveland), just something that was a talking point for a discussion on air.”]

A report from Cleveland's 92.3 The Fan on Tuesday stated Jimmy Haslam, the newly announced owner of the Cleveland Browns, has targeted Alabama football coach Nick Saban as the next head coach of the Browns [...]

Saban, 152-54-1 in college and 15-17 with the Dolphins, indeed has history in the area, playing his college ball at nearby Kent State and working on three different Ohio college staffs before spending four seasons as Browns defensive backs coach under Bill Belichick. “Maybe he really misses Ohio,” is a really, really infrequent rationale for like any career or life decision ever, but it’s not out of the question.

The part of this I’m stuck on more than any other: if Saban wants to try the NFL out again, he can do much better than the Browns. If Saban really wants to coach the Browns, Jerry Jones might just have the whole franchise installed as a permanent exhibit in Cowboys Stadium’s atrium. Cowboys Stadium has an atrium, right?

Alabama fans are making brave faces:

While others can't help but think this is all just some Third Saturday in October psychological warfare:

Still, let’s remember everything the man has achieved:
