No Ohio State game on 2013 Vanderbilt schedule either

The Vanderbilt Commodores have dropped Ohio State from the 2013 football schedule.

Pat Lovell-US PRESSWIRE

The Vanderbilt Commodores reported on their website Thursday that they will open their season against Ole Miss on Aug. 31, eliminating their previously scheduled game against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Earlier on Thursday a report surfaced that Vanderbilt had backed out of its agreement to play Northwestern in 2013 and 2014. Now it appears that they have also backed out of their 2013 game against Ohio State.

The 2013 schedule on Vanderbilt’s website highlights an Aug. 31 game against Ole Miss to open the season, which was the date of the previously agreed upon game against the Buckeyes. On Thursday, Ohio State’s website still featured a game against Vanderbilt to open the 2013 season.

Sources report that Vanderbilt backed out of its commitment to Ohio State via U.S. mail, and did not call the Buckeyes. With Vanderbilt removed the remaining 2013 non-conference games for OSU are Florida A&M, California, and Buffalo. The Buckeyes will have to find a replacement opponent for their Aug. 31 game.
