Mississippi State's success can be credited to pairing a balanced offense with a stingy defense. They're averaging 16.3 points allowed per game, good for 17th in the FBS. Tyler Russell, a junior in his first year as a starter, is under center and has racked up 12 touchdowns with only one interception. LaDarius Perkins is moving the ball on the ground, averaging just less than 100 yards per game.
The Bulldogs are favorites, but Middle Tennessee is capable of the upset. They beat Georgia Tech at the end of September, 49-28. They may have trouble doing the same on Saturday, though. Benny Cunningham, who rushed for 217 yards against the Yellow Jackets, suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Blue Raiders' 34-30 win over Florida International. Logan Kilgore, who has thrown for 1,422 yards this season, will have to pick up the slack on offense.
Game time, TV channel: 7 p.m. ET, ESPN2
Point spread: Mississippi State favored by 19.5 points
