Notre Dame vs. Oklahoma: Sooners to get boost from Stacy McGee’s return

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops reinstated his talented senior defensive lineman Stacy McGee on Monday before a Week 9 showdown with Notre Dame.

Heading into his team's showcase game against Notre Dame on Saturday, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops decided to reinstate suspended defensive tackle Stacy McGee, according to Jake Trotter of SoonerNation.com.

A 6’4, 299-pound senior, McGee started 17 games over the last three seasons for the Sooners and was poised for a breakout campaign. Instead, McGee was suspended indefinitely over the summer for what was deemed a violation of university policy, and Stoops was quickly forced to reconfigure his defensive line to adjust for the loss.

McGee tallied 3.5 tackles per loss in each of his first three years in the Big 12, and has been working with the scout-team defense during his suspension. Stoops remains fully confident in his senior lineman’s dedication to the program, and plans to bring McGee right back into the first-team rotation this week.

While McGee has been out of the lineup, fellow senior Casey Walker has evolved into a force up front over the last month. Walker has anchored a starting front seven that has allowed just one touchdown over the last three games, and is coming a season-high six tackles in a win over Kansas. With both Walker and McGee lining up next to each other against the Irish, Stoops is hoping that he can shut down Notre Dame’s potent ground attack come Saturday.
