James Franklin injury: Mizzou QB again unlikely to play, says Gary Pinkel

Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel revealed that junior quarterback James Franklin still may not be healthy enough to play this weekend against Kentucky.

Though he hoped to have his star quarterback on the field this Saturday, Missouri coach Gary Pinkel confirmed to Seth Boster of The Maneater on Monday afternoon that junior James Franklin is once again unlikely to suit up this weekend when the Tigers take on Kentucky.

The 6'6", 225-pound Franklin injured his knee during an Oct. 6 loss to Vanderbilt, and was then forced to watch a 32-point loss to Alabama from the sidelines the following week. Dave Matter of The Columbia Daily Tribune reports that Franklin has been taking snaps and throwing as usual in practice, but that he has yet to take part in any running activities.

Missouri backup Corbin Berkstresser struggled to get much going against a stout Alabama defense back in his last appearance on Oct. 13, and it appears the freshman will be called on again to lead the offense against a much more manageable Kentucky secondary. While Franklin has a great shot to return to the field for an early November trip down to Florida to face the Gators, Pinkel and the offense could be in for another shaky afternoon with Berkstresser at the helm.
