Florida vs. Georgia 2012 results: Bulldogs hold on, beat No. 2 Gators

The Georgia Bulldogs were able to hold on late against the No. 2 Florida Gators, giving the Bulldogs control of their destiny in the SEC East and two wins in a row against their archrivals.

With flags flying in every direction and turnovers on both sides throughout the game, it was the No. 10 Georgia Bulldogs that were able to hold on and knock off the undefeated No. 2 Florida Gators, beating their SEC East divisional foe by the score of 17-9 at EverBank Field.

Down 8 with the ball, the Florida Gators were driving against the Bulldogs' stout defense that dominated all game. The team was able to get deep into Georgia territory and may have had a chance to tie the game, after Gators quarterback Jeff Driskel hit tight end Jordan Reed.

The junior Reed was racing toward the end zone, but the Bulldogs’ Jarvis Jones punched the ball out and the team was able to recover the ball. It was Florida’s sixth and final turnover that potentially cost the No. 2 team in the nation a chance to play in the SEC Championship game.

The two teams combined for 24 penalties and nine turnovers, six of which were credited to the Gators. All three of Georgia's were from Aaron Murray, who threw three first-half interceptions.

Box Score Hero: Other than Jones, who had three sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss, 13 tackles and the game-winning forced fumble, was freshman running back Todd Gurley who starred for Georgia, rushing for 119 yards and one touchdown. He added 23 more yards on two receptions, too.

Rankings Ramifications: The No. 10 Bulldogs will not only move up in the rankings, but also control their own destiny and will be in the SEC Championship game if they can win their final remaining games. On the other hand, the Gators are no longer undefeated and could fall outside of the top 5 now.

But Did They Cover? The Bulldogs, who opened as 3.5-point underdogs and closed anywhere from 6.5 to 7 points, were able to cover the spread with the outright victory.

Next Week's Schedule: Georgia will take on the (5-3) Rebels of Ole Miss while the Gators will look to recover against (4-4) Missouri Tigers.
