After Oklahoma took an early 3-0 lead off a Michael Hunnicutt 28-yard field goal, Cierre Wood took the football and scampered 62 yards to the end zone to make it 7-3 Notre Dame. The Irish and Sooners would trade field goals, and then Oklahoma tied things up in the fourth with a Blake Bell one-yard scamper. Notre Dame would score the last 17 points, aided by a spectacular Manti Te'o interception.
Everett Golson completed just over half of his passes for 177 yards, but he was also efficient in making plays with his feet, rushing over 60 yards and the crucial go-ahead touchdown. Notre Dame rushed for 211 yards on the ground behind Wood, Golson, and Theo Riddick. The Irish defense held Oklahoma to 15 yards on the ground and only allowed four third down conversions on 14 attempts.
