Jordan Hicks injury: Texas LB out for Texas Tech, might redshirt

Texas linebacker Jordan Hicks will miss his sixth consecutive game this Saturday due to a hip injury, and may be forced to take a medical redshirt if he does not improve.

Kevin Jairaj-US PRESSWIRE

After ruling out injured linebacker Jordan Hicks for Saturday's game with Texas Tech, Texas Longhorns' head coach Mack Brown confirmed on Monday that he plans to seek a medical redshirt if necessary for his injured defender.

Hicks last suited up in a Week 3 win over Ole Miss, but suffered a serious hip injury that has forced him to miss five straight weeks of action. Saturday’s meeting with the Red Raiders will mark the sixth game where Hicks has been held out of the lineup, even though his coach remains hesitant to reveal if his star linebacker will actually play again in 2012.

Without Hicks in the fold, the Longhorns have given up an astonishing 40.6 points per game to Big 12 opponents over the last five weeks. While it remains clear that Hicks’ presence would be an immediate boost for his team’s ice-cold defense going forward, any chance for a medical redshirt will be eliminated if he returns to the field.
