Notre Dame RB Amir Carlisle will redshirt

Notre Dame running back Amir Carlisle, a transfer from Southern California, will redshirt this season due to an ankle injury. Via Andrew Owens of The Observer:

As a true freshman in 2011, Carlisle averaged over six yards per carry on 19 attempts for USC. He also caught seven passes, one for a touchdown. Even as a member of the Trojans, the youngster had ankle and knee issues. The running back was surprisingly granted a waiver request by the NCAA to play in 2012 for Notre Dame after his family moved cross-country for his father’s job.

Carlisle was a four-star member of the 2011 Southern Cal recruiting class. He was considered the No. 4 all-purpose back in the country and the No. 9 overall player in the state of California, according to recruiting website Rivals.com

The undefeated Fighting Irish, ranked No. 9 in the country, will host the Miami Hurricanes at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night. The game will be televised on NBC.
