UConn RB Lyle McCombs arrested Friday night, will sit first quarter vs. Rutgers

Lyle McCombs was arrested Friday night, and is reportedly expected to sit out the first quarter against No. 22 Rutgers as a result.

Lyle McCombs, the starting running back for the Connecticut Huskies, is expected to be benched for the first quarter of UConn's game against the No. 22 Rutgers Scarlet Knights after being arrested Friday night, according to the Hartford Courant.

McCombs was reportedly arrested for second degree breach of peace, which carries a $500 non-surety bond, according to the Courant’s Desmond Conner, and his court date is Nov. 27. Tom Luicci of the Newark Star-Ledger was the first to report his expected benching. From Conner’s writeup for the Courant:

According to the UConn police report, police responded to [UConn residence hall] LaFlesche after an alarmed resident called and said that a male and female were involved in a domestic dispute. According to the report, during an investigation, it was learned that McCombs was yelling and had spit on and pushed his girlfriend while outside of a residential hall.

McCombs, a sophomore, has rushed for 452 yards and four touchdowns in five games, adding 12 receptions for 129 yards. McCombs was a breakout star in Storrs as a freshman, rushing for 1,151 and seven touchdowns in his first season.
