The Maryland Terrapins escaped with a 19-14 win over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in a game marred by sloppy play, three missed field goals, a missed extra point and five turnovers.

Maryland took the lead for good with just under six minutes left in the game, via a Justin Pickett 1-yard touchdown plunge that capped a five-play, 58-yard Terrapins drive. A 63-yard Perry Hills to Stefon Diggs completion set up Maryland for the game-winning touchdown.
The Terrapins led 13-7 at halftime, thanks to a Hills-to-Kevin Dorsey 33-yard touchdown pass, and two missed field goals by Wake Forest kicker Jimmy Newman.
Maryland won despite rushing for just 52 yards on 43 carries, a woeful 1.2-yards-per-carry average. The Terrapins, winners of just two games all of last season, now have three wins in their 2012 campaign. It is Maryland’s first conference win since September of 2011.
Box Score Hero: Superstar freshman Stefon Diggs. His 63-yard catch set up the winning points, and he finished the game with five catches for 105 yards. Diggs also chipped in 22 yards on three punt returns for the victorious Terrapins.
Rankings Ramifications: Neither team was ranked entering this game, nor will they be ranked following this game.
But Did They Cover? Maryland, 4.5-point home favorites, managed to cover by the slimmest possible margin.
Next Week's Schedule: Maryland travels to Charlottesville next Saturday to take on the Virginia Cavaliers. Wake Forest has next weekend off before facing the very same Virginia Cavaliers in Charlottesville Oct. 20.
