Bowling Green vs. Akron 2012 final score: Falcons win 24-10 behind strong 2nd half

Bowling Green trailed 10-0 at halftime but outscored the Zips 24-0 in the second half to improve to 3-3.

Bowling Green defeated Akron 24-10 on Saturday despite trailing by 10 at halftime. The Falcons improve to 3-3 with the victory, while Akron dropped to just 1-5 for the season.

Akron opened the scoring in the second quarter when Dalton Williams hit Tyrell Goodman for a 17-yard touchdown pass. The Zips increased the lead to 10-0 before halftime when Robert Stein hit a 46 yard field goal with just four seconds to go in the second quarter.

Bowling Green started the second half looking better on offense, as Anthon Samuel capped the Falcons' first drive with a 4-yard touchdown run. Stephen Stein tied the game with a 26-yard field goal before Matt Schilz found Alex Bayer for a 60-yard touchdown that put Bowling Green ahead 17-10 at the end of three quarters.

Bowling Green stretched the lead in the fourth quarter when Schilz and Bayer connected for a second score, this one from 12 yards out. That was the final score of the game, with Bowling Green winning 24-10.

Box Score Hero: Anthon Samuel ran for 117 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown on Saturday, leading the Bowling Green comeback.

Rankings Ramifications: This game won’t affect the rankings.

But Did They Cover? Bowling Green was favored by 5.5, so they covered the spread on Saturday. The over/under was set at 60.5, so anyone taking the under should be pleased.

Next Week's Schedule: The Zips will be in action again Oct. 13 when they hit the road to face the Ohio Bobcats. Bowling Green will also be in action next Saturday, hosting Miami (OH).
